Industries coalition produces Business Code
A COALITION of the Association of Industries (AGI), Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industries (GNCCI) and Ghana Employers Association (GEA) has developed a business code to guide business operators in Ghana to fulfill their corporate responsibilities.
The component which is being financed by the Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA) include ethnical practices to improve industrial responsibilities and relations in respect to human rights, labour standards, protection of the and of Industry has therefore organized a forum for its members in order to introduce them to the Ghana Business Code.
Members were educated on the objectives of the code and its usefulness to the business community.
A Sub-Component Manager of the Ghana Business Code, Mr. Johnson Ben Oduro explained that the document would improve business practices in the country emphasizing that it was developed on a voluntary initiative and not a regulatory instrument.
He urge members of the business community to sign on the code on its website to support the principles on which the documents were developed.
Mr. Oduro mentioned that Ghana Business Code was aligned to the United Nations Global Compact and reflected shared values and principles between societies and businesses. He was particular with the moral and ethnical approach of consumers and noted that citizens should not sit down and watch manufacturers display shoddy goods on the market.
“Business can no more play ostrich,” Mr. Oduro said. He said industries must work hard to sustain their corporate image.
Mr. Oduro noted that these were some of the reasons why the Business Code had been developed to give directions to the production of competitive goods and good profit margins.
The Regional Technical Assistance Co-ordinator of the International Financial Corporation (IFC), Mrs. Sese Gadzekpo has called on the Private Sector to take advantage of the IFC’s advisory services and credit facilities to develop and shape their businesses including capacity building.
She said each sector had its unique challenges and therefore encouraged the groups to approach the IFC for assistance.
