Ghana Business Code (GHBC) receives Overwhelming Welcome in Takoradi

The Ghana Business Code (GHBC) received a hearty welcome and support from businesses operating in Takoradi, Western Region of Ghana during an outreach programme held on the 11th & 12th March 2008. The programme aimed at introducing the Code to businesses and getting them to sign on. Key companies visited during the programme were Ghana Rubber Estates Limited (GREL), SKYY Group of companies, West African Mills Company Limited (WAMCO), Industrial and Technical Supply Centre (ITSC) and JENIK Cargo handling Co. They all welcomed and lauded the GHBC initiative and gave their total support to the code with positive indications of their respective companies signing on. At GREL & WAMCO insights were given into Corporate Social Responsibility (CRS) programmes embarked upon by the said companies. The other organizations also shed light on various initiates they have embarked upon which border on good employer – employee relations

The outreach programme which started with two separate discussions on Skyy TV and radio on the code, attracted enquires from the listening public.

In an exclusive interview with the media, Mr. J.B Oduro, Subcomponent Manager of the Ghana Business Code (GHBC) noted that even though some seminars on the GHBC had been held in Takoradi in the past, it was time to get closer to business entities with the code, hence the programme. This he said would afford them the opportunity to ask all the relevant questions on the code and have them addressed. He emphasized the need for a mutual relationship between employers and employees built on cooperation, mutual understanding and appreciation for each other’s role and contribution. An appreciation that, both the employer and employee are in it to either “swim together or sink together”.
